BYD e7 Electric Sedan Launches in China – From Just RM65,000

Date:

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD has launched its latest model, the BYD e7, offering Malaysians a glimpse of what could be one of the most affordable full-sized EVs on the market. With a starting price of RMB 98,800, the e7 converts to an estimated RM65,000—positioning it as a serious value contender in the EV space.

Budget-Friendly, But Packed With Range

The e7 is available in three trim levels, ranging from RMB 103,800 to 115,800 (approximately RM68,000 to RM76,000). As part of a limited-time offer until 30 June 2025, BYD is promoting the base model at RMB 98,800 (around RM65,000).

Performance-wise, the e7 features a 100 kW (134 hp) electric motor with a top speed of 150 km/h. Buyers have a choice between two Blade battery packs: a 48 kWh version offering a range of 450 km, and a larger 57.6 kWh pack delivering 520 km, both measured under the CLTC cycle.

Spacious and Practical Design

The e7 fits into the midsize sedan category, measuring 4,780 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,515 mm tall, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase. Its sleek body features a signature “smiling face” grille, a ducktail rear spoiler, and classic door handles, offering a more practical and conservative look compared to more premium EVs.

Inside, the minimalist interior includes a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen, physical buttons for core functions, USB ports, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Rear passengers benefit from ample legroom, air vents, and ISOFIX child seat mounts, although a center armrest is missing—suggesting it’s geared towards both private and fleet use.

Marketed for Young Buyers and Urban Use

Part of BYD’s e-series, the e7 is tailored for young, tech-savvy drivers and commercial fleet operators like ride-hailing services and taxis. Its affordability, impressive range, and trusted Blade battery tech make it an attractive option for dense urban environments.

Could It Arrive in Malaysia?

While there’s no confirmation yet on the e7’s arrival in Malaysia, BYD’s recent success in the local market with the Atto 3 and Dolphin models suggests it’s only a matter of time before more budget-friendly EVs make their way here.

If priced similarly, the e7 could dramatically lower the barrier to EV ownership in Malaysia and drive broader adoption, particularly among first-time buyers and commercial fleet operators.
